As per the clubhouse closure information below, our Restricted Teams event has moved to start on the first day back from renovations - Day 1: 28 Jan 2019 and Day 2: 18 Feb 2019. Total masterpoints of the 4 team members must be less than 300 points. (read more)

In late 2018, we received a very positive response to our proposal to run some bridge lessons for players who are past the basics and have been playing bridge for less than a year, but who could benefit from some further tuition to improve their game. The clubhouse closure recently announced (see below) has meant that these classes are reduced but still running - see the altered details below. If any players in this category didn't get around to signing up last year, just turn up on the day - all are welcome!

Novice level lessons (held in the clubhouse) are as follows:

As many of our members are aware, our clubhouse is in need of some repair work and, with apologies for the inconvenience to our members, we advise that the work will be conducted from Monday 14 January to Saturday 26 January 2019. Unfortunately there will be no GLBC bridge games held during this period. Alternate premises were sought but - considering the repair bill - a cost-effective solution was unavailable.

So, scheduled bridge games will conclude on Saturday 12 January and resume on Monday 28 January 2019. see more below

Throughout 2019, running alongside the Open Master Pairs competition, members ranked *State Master and below can play in the RESTRICTED section of this Master Pairs competition - held on the 1st Wednesday of each month throughout the year, starting 1pm. To qualify for Master Pairs points in either section, members must play with the same partner throughout the year, as little or as often as they wish (no substitutes allowed). 

The party started with dozens of awards and prizes for many of our members - check out the 'Hall of Fame' tab under 'About Us' above. Comedic entertainment from some of our most talented members followed: some (dodgy but very funny) jokes; a stirring GLBC rendition of  'My Favourite Things' with very apt visuals; trivia and riddles; and lucky door prizes. Newly nonagenarian and long-time (and still!) active GLBC members, Helen and Beryl celebrated their birthdays with our members and kind words from our President Ken Bridges this week. Pictured is Beryl Appleby taking time out from her bridge game for some of the gorgeous cake. Happy birthday to both!

This year's Blue Gold event was very successful - the random matching of Gold pairs (above Restricted level) with Novice pairs had a positive effect on both groups in the club and hopefully encouraged our Novice players to venture further afield in their bridge in the future.

Don't forget to make up a table and come along to our annual Christmas lunch on Monday 10 December - see the noticeboard list at the clubhouse. Prizes and awards will be presented from 11:30am and lunch will follow. Looking forward to a cheery end to a great year for our club!
