Newly nonagenarian and long-time (and still!) active GLBC members, Helen and Beryl celebrated their birthdays with our members and kind words from our President Ken Bridges this week. This year's Blue Gold event was very successful - the random matching of Gold pairs (above Restricted level) with Novice pairs had a positive effect on both groups in the club and hopefully encouraged our Novice players to venture further afield in their bridge in the future.

Don't forget to make up a table and come along to our annual Christmas lunch on Monday 10 December - see the noticeboard list at the clubhouse. Prizes and awards will be presented from 11:30am and lunch will follow. Looking forward to a cheery end to a great year for our club!

The national results are in for the 2018 Australia Wide Restricted Pairs event (held on 31 October 2018) and we're very proud to announce that, out of up to 1000 participants around the country, our own winners - Megan Grant and Margaret!  Boniface - came a very commendable 14th position with an adjusted score of 65%! But wait...

Our Melbourne Cup day event this year was a great success - well done to all contributors, participants and especially the winning fashion plates:

On 31 October 2018, following our favourable response to the Australia-Wide Novice Pairs, a similar event was conducted for Restricted-level pairs (each player with fewer than 300 masterpoints). Well done to all, and especially to (pictured): E/W winners Tom Siminski and Sharon Bull; tournament director Sylvia Goodwin; and N/S winners Megan Grant and Margaret Boniface. Over the weekend of 27 to 28 October 2018, GLBC fielded 3 teams in the Mid Coast region’s Grand National Open Teams (GNOT) finals, with one team placing a strong first in a very competitive field: Henry Hudson, Bronwyn Boehm, Jill and Karl Buchmann. Would like to improve your game beyond the basics and acquire some extra skills? If the answer is 'yes!' and you've been playing bridge for a year or more, come along to a series of lessons in our clubhouse on Tuesday afternoons from 2pm to 4pm for four weeks starting on 15 January 2019 (i.e. 15/1/2019, 22/1/2019, 29/1/2019 and 5/2/2019). Those interested can add their name to a list on the notice board at the club.

Well done to the winners of this event: Judy Scown, Wayne & Fran Carroll and Don Scown (pictured). With 5 wins and 1 loss, their win was well earned. Honourable mention also goes to 2nd place-getters, Megan Grant, Margaret Boniface, Gail Salmon and Daphne Yarnold who also had 5 wins and a loss over the 2-week teams championship.
