Seeking feedback—GLBC hand records online

In an effort to increase the utility of this website and in response to members’ discussions, our tireless tournament director and website manager, Sylvia Goodwin has set up a hand records test for members to check out and provide feedback over the next 2 weeks – details below. Comments on format and usefulness are sought—please provide Sylvia with your ideas/comments in person at the club, via email/phone (see Contact Info below).

Bruce Hunter trophy returns to its rightful home

Our annual friendly clash with Taree Bridge Club for the Bruce Hunter trophy saw 7 teams each side competing last Friday – with GLBC winning back the (admittedly well-polished) trophy. Well done to all who competed (Results link). Many thanks to hosts Taree who, as ever, were very welcoming. It was a sociable event, laden with scrumptious goodies to help us through the gruelling task of - or perhaps to distract us from? - defeating Taree.

GLBC member turns 90

Good wishes abounded this week for Stewart Barnsley’s 90th birthday. At 80 years old, Stewart learned to play at our club and has certainly come a long way in 10 years. He continues to improve his game, placing 1st E/W in his last game. We hope he plays with us for many more years.

2019 Country Teams qualifiers

After a two-week competition, congratulations go to the winning team with 5 wins and 1 draw: Henry Hudson, Carmel Pike, Bronwyn Boehm and Ann Kynaston (pictured). The Marks, Erby, Salmon, Eishauer and Goodwin teams also qualified for the regional Country Teams competition with the Erby team representing Taree. Good luck!

GLBC members do well again in regional congress

Many of our members venture out beyond the safety and familiarity of our club to other competitions and congresses – and often represent us very well! Last weekend, Megan Grant, Margaret Boniface, Maretta Callow and Susan Eishauer placed 8th (out of 30 teams) in the Port Macquarie March Congress — bringing home the Category C (restricted) money prize and beating many Category A and B teams to boot! Congratulations to them and also to 2nd place winners in the Category B section: Jill and Karl Buchmann, Henry Hudson and Bronwyn Boehm...read more

Founding GLBC member turns 97!

Jan Lawless is a founding member of our club and for nearly 40 years, has played (and still plays) bridge at Great lakes Bridge Club (GLBC) regularly. At 97, Jan’s energy, humour and indomitable spirit continues to inspire us all, and we’re grateful for her long involvement in and work for the club (Read more of Jan’s story below). We wish her many happy returns on her birthday and many more to come!

Equal second place went to Norma Bousfield & Les Marks; and Alison McGregor & Gail Gorman. Well done to all organisers and participants!
