With apologies for this late publication, congratulations to the winners of our 2-day Memorial Pairs Championship held in September: N/S - Terry Bodycote & Sue Eishauer and E/W - Marie Schutte & Maree Brady (pictured). Well done also to other placegetters: Fran & Wayne Carroll and Jeanette Rayward & Ray Pierce.
It's lovely to see some winners who are not always at the top of the ladder!
Congratulations go to local team Margaret Boniface, Megan Grant, Barbara Williams and Judy Scott (pictured) for qualifying to play in the Grand National Open Teams (GNOT) finals in December 2023 in Brisbane. The team placed 2nd in last weekend's 2-day regional final at Port Macquarie. Special mention also goes to the other Great Lakes team who placed 4th: Henry Hudson, Bronwyn Boehm, Sue Eishauer, Terry Bodycote, and Jill & Karl Buchmann. Well done all!
Congratulations to our recently promoted members listed below. For information about ABF ranks, click here. Also, congratulations to our club’s top 50 most improved players (as at 30-Sep-23).
In a hard-fought battle, our recent Labour Day Pairs event saw some surprising but well-deserved winners. Congratulations on their respective wins go to N/S pair Nigel Savory and Daphne Yarnold (the only N/S pair that bid and made a hearts slam on Board 25). And to E/W pair Rhonda Wright and Eta Rogoyska. It’s wonderful to see such a mixed field and a healthy number of competitors at our events again. Well done all.
Sadly, we farewell a much loved and respected member of our bridge community: Stewart Barnsley passed away late August 2023, aged 94 years.
Congratulations go to Barbara Watt, this year's winner of the Greg Simpson Trophy - an event for players holding less than 100 Master Points. Over two rounds (17 & 24 August), each player competed with a different partner to qualify. This is the last time this event will be run. Well done to all concerned!
Cashless payments will begin at GLBC on Monday 28 August 2023.
From this date, players will use a Credit/Debit card upon entry to pay for each session at Table 1. The meet-and greet-person there will tick each name off against the day’s online-registered players list. Receipts are available upon request.
With many thanks to GLBC member Mike O'Halloran who oragnised a Federal Government grant of $2000, our clubhouse now sports a new defibrillator. All members are invited to our meeting on 14 September 2023 to see a demonstration at 1pm.
Anyone can use an automated external defibrillator (AED) as the device tells you what to do. It is used along with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
Please be advised that the results for the recent President's Trophy game of Monday 7 August 2023 are now correct and may be viewed using the Results tab in the usual way.
