GLBC President Dick Barry commenced the meeting by introducing Mike O'Halloran who gave a detailed presentation and demonstration of a defibrillator. Mike is to approach Federal MP Dr David Gillespie to find out if any grant money would be available to our club to purchase our own defibrillator.

A fire blanket has been purchased and is prominently displayed in the clubroom kitchen. 

Follow-up beginners' lessons are planned - watch this space.

Earlier start for afternoon bridge sessions - 2023 Winter months

Several comments have been received about the difficulty some members have when regular afternoon bridge games during winter finish in the dark.  A resolution was passed so that afternoon sessions from the winter of 2023 onwards will commence at 12 noon, to be completed by about 4.00pm.

Thank you to all who attended our 2022 AGM, and especially to those who have chosen to give their time (yet again!) to support our wonderful club and keep it running so well. Check out the 'About us' then 'Our team' tabs above for more information.

We are aware that some GLBC members who have played in our clubhouse over the last few days (from 9 July 2022) have tested positive to COVID-19. While not mandatory by current government regulations, we suggest players wear masks to protect themselves and others.

We wish those affected a speedy recovery, and thank everyone for their patience and understanding in these continuing trying times.

Our annual 2-week Club Pairs event struck disaster this year. Although the first three rounds went without a hitch, the scheduled second day was postponed due to a local outbreak of COVID. Reconvened on Monday 11 July, unfortunately not all of the original pairs could make it. 

Our wonderful tournament organiser, Sylvia did her best to manage with fewer numbers but to no avail. In the end, she declared all competing pairs the winners this year!

Following last week's cancellation of the second round of the 2022 Club Pairs Championship - due to a sudden increase in the number of COVID-19 cases locally - this event will now be held on Monday 11 July 2022.

With much sadness, we say farewell to Nigel Harman who passed away aged 85 years on 1 June 2022. He was a relatively new bridge player, catching the 'bridge bug' from our own GLBC lessons four years ago. His enthusiasm for the game saw him progress, attempting competitions and events that others at his level often find daunting.

On Thursday 26 May 2022, GLBC took part in the annual Australia-Wide Novice Pairs Competition — a national bridge event run by Australian Bridge Magazine for novices (fewer than 100 masterpoints as at 31 March).
