Following the highly successful series of free lessons, we're excited to welcome ten new members to our club: Brenden and Trish Lowe, Bronwyn Williams, Louis Muccillo, Fiona Lewis, Robyn McNamara, Kaye Wallace, Jenny Kneale, Janet Thatcher and Mick Patroni. Congratulations and thanks to Sylvia for all her hard work!

Also, congratulations go to our recently promoted members: Eddie Hancock (Silver Local Master), Wendy Edwards (Bronze Local Master), Warren Riley (Local Master) and Bo Davidson and Louise Cuthbert (Club Masters).

Our committee is considering the re-introduction of 'Dinner and Bridge' on a Friday night. In the past, this was a casual and entertaining way for our members to get together socially. On the first Friday of each month, they let their hair down and enjoyed dinner (often pizza), wine and bridge in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere.

Please note that all GLBC afternoon sessions change to a 12:30pm start from the beginning of May 2025. Therefore, the Saturday 3-May-25 HiLo game will be the first session to experience the changed Winter schedule of a 12:30pm start. 

All morning games remain unchanged throughout the year i.e. 9am start. 

As usual, so that the movement may be organised and the session begins as scheduled, our directors require players to arrive 15 minutes early (12:15pm or 8:45am).

In our final wrap-up for this year's congress, special mention goes to its instigator, Nicki Taylor. This quiet achiever spent long busy months organising every facet of the successful event - no mean task considering what is involved in face-to-face congresses these days. 

Adding to the generosity of local businesses (see article below) in sponsoring our Congress last weekend, we wish to acknowledge MidCoast Council for their support through their Event and Festival Sponsorship fund. The Congress' full capacity and great success was due to this combined financial support - and of course, the work and dedication of many volunteers.

The second day of our Great Lakes Bridge Club (GLBC) 41st Congress on Sunday 2 March 2025 saw some hard-fought battles during play in both sections. And plenty of friendly banter in-between. Congratulations to the winners of both the Intermediate and Open Teams events (pictured below).

With a clubhouse overflowing with bridge players from far and wide, and tables laden with goodies, our Swiss Pairs competition proved a great success.

Sadly, this week we farewelled one of Great Lakes Bridge Club's grand ladies, Gwen Perkins (24 July 1929 - 7 February 2025). 

Yes! The first in a long time - and sadly becoming rare around Australia - our very own face-to-face congress is only a month away! Get your partner and team organised for the first weekend in March. Competition is open to Novice, Intermediate and Open ranked players so, as much depends on numbers, it's worth registering for players of all levels. 

The experience of a congress is very worthwhile, and fun. Not to mention the very important potential to win points and money prizes. Check out the attached flyer for details and register soon via MyABF.
