Taree pipped at the post for the Bruce Hunter Trophy

Bruce Hunter trophy

After a two-year hiatus, Taree and Great Lakes Bridge clubs enjoyed a very pleasant afternoon of bridge in Forster last Friday 25 March 2022. Ostensibly, the Bruce Hunter Trophy bridge comp is an annual  'grudge match' between our two neighbouring clubs. In reality, however, it has always been a fun and (unsurprisingly) competitive contest - grudges are never 'on the cards'. This day was no exception, although was it this furious tussle that put the kink in the trophy?

Fought over five rounds, Taree's team 6 (Pauline Erby, Gil Clarke, Judy Scott and Lance Coffey) placed first for most of the afternoon, finishing 2nd in the final round.

However, being a teams event, the outcome was based on each club's total Victory Points (VPs). The trophy was snatched from Taree's grasp by GLBC who collected 255VPs to Taree's 244VPs.

GLBC's 1st and 3rd place getters were respectively: Team 5 - Janet Flanagan, Robert Palasthy, Jill & Karl Buchmann; and team 1 - Fran & Wayne Carroll, Henry Hudson & Bronwyn Boehm.

Congratulations to all who participated.

As usual, and perhaps the biggest drawcard for this event, a delicious afternoon tea was enjoyed by all. Many thanks to Barb Richardson and all who contributed.
