COVID-19 update - our club is closed until further notice

Due to COVID-19 and upon the recommendation of the Australian Bridge Federation (ABF) and the NSW Bridge Association (NSWBA), we will be closing the GLBC from Tuesday 17 March 2020 until further notice. We ask that you contact members who you believe are unlikely to view this online noticifation to let them know of the closure. We thank you for your forbearance and understanding in this matter and hope to be back up and running as soon as it is deemed appropriate - watch this space!

ABF: "Whilst it may be a difficult decision, health experts around the world are all in agreement that the best way to slow the transmission of the virus is for people to practise social distancing. Many other organisations are cancelling events that involve gatherings of people and we feel it is a duty of care to our extremely high-risk clientele and to afford the highest level of health and safety to the members, their families and the wider community."

NSWBA: "The Government is emphasising the need for those citizens aged over 60 to avoid unnecessary meetings and to maintain a social distance of at least one and a half metres. It has also defined a concept of a static closed meeting of over two hours which it sees as undesirable. This concept has been used to ban any such meeting of over 500 people. Apart from size, Bridge sessions fit this definition very well, being a gathering of people in a confined space for three or more hours. This thrust is to slow the spread of COVID-19 enabling the health services to have the capacity to treat the unlucky people infected by this virus as well as those catching the ‘flu. Swamping our hospitals will result in worse outcomes for the sick."
