COVID-19 – our Club committee’s response and advice
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a severe acute respiratory syndrome which is highly infectious. Our committee has put important COVID-19 protocols in place for all members and visitors to observe, as follows:
- If feeling unwell or 'off colour', please stay home.
- Keep hands well washed and use hand sanitiser before morning/afternoon tea, and at the beginning and end of playing sessions.
- Use gloves when replenishing biscuits in containers and undertaking other catering duties.
- Cough/sneeze into tissues or your elbow. Please do not cough over the table.
- Do not hold cups and glasses by their tops and refrain from touching your face.
It has been recommended by the World Health Organisation that people returning from certain countries self-isolate for 14 days. We ask that all returning overseas visitors avoid the Club for this period of time.
The committee has decided that the Club will close when/if schools close and will re-open at the committee’s discretion. This advice may change as the pandemic evolves. Many thanks for your co-operation and stay well.
Comments (amended) from our regional representative:
We realise that bridge is the lifeblood for many older players, but a club game involves a collection of vulnerable people in close proximity handling cards, pens etc. which are passed around the room. Therefore I hope that our members are aware of the highly infectious nature of COVID-19 and accept that they attend their local bridge club at their own risk. Additionally, I think it appropriate to take guidance from other entities in the same situation—particularly cinemas, restaurants, bowling and other services clubs.
