Vale Stewart Barnsley

Sadly, we farewell a much loved and respected member of our bridge community: Stewart Barnsley passed away late August 2023, aged 94 years.

Stewart began learning bridge at our club at the ripe old age of 80 and took to the game – and its camaraderie – immediately and eagerly. Not afraid to mix it with the ‘more able’ players, Stewart went from strength to strength, placing in several events including 3rd with good mate, John van Doorn in the NSW Bridge Association’s Under 100 Master Points (UHMP) 2019 competition. At 91 years old, Stewart graduated to State Master – an excellent effort that shows age is no barrier where bridge is concerned. A charming and intelligent man, Stewart will be missed.
